About the Artist/Writer
For over 30 years Lawrence, he likes to be called Larry, has been illustrating and writing children’s books. He wrote and illustrated 11 Golden books for young readers, selling millions of copies world-wide.
Collaborating with various outstanding Children’s book writers, he has illustrated 67 other children’s books. He used pen and black ink or watercolors in different styles to fit each story. Some were picture books and 13 were chapter books for older readers.
Creating covers and illustrations, his work has appeared in 48 issues of Wow Magazine, a fun Scholastic publication of puzzles, stories, games, punch-out masks and paper toys.
For Jim Henson’s Muppet Press, he illustrated Fraggle Rock and Scary, Scary Monsters books, one of them a Golder Pop-up book. Other Jim Henson Muppets books featured Kermit and Miss Piggy.
For 15 years, his illustrations and covers of Big Bird, Bert and Ernie appeared in Sesame Street Magazine.
Larry designed the sets and characters and illustrated a book for the Jim Henson TV movie Special, The Christmas Toy. An illustration from The Christmas Toy book and a still from the film appears in the Jim Henson the Works book from Random House.
A pen and ink illustration he did for American Heritage Magazine was included in
200 years of American Illustration, a Random House book published in association with the Society of Illustrators.
Jackie and the Shadow Snatcher, an Alfred A. Knopf book is the latest book that
he both wrote and illustrated in a Graphic Novel style.
More books are in the works on his drawing board, reflecting Larry's interest and respect for the masters of comic books and the great cartoonists of the newspaper comic strips.
